How Many Units of Botox Do I Need?
When you consider BOTOX® Cosmetic, it can be a little daunting equating the cost per unit and trying to asses how much you will need. While the right amount of BOTOX® can only be determined in a professional consultation but here is a basic understanding of how it works can help you with the understanding and cost.
20 units are approved by the FDA for between the eyes, the elevens, or frown lines as we call them. This would consist of 5 injection sites but many patients only need 12 units there or 3 injection sites. Again everyone is different and until we see you we won’t really know.
The average dose around the eyes is 12-24 units total. This consists of 12 units per eye which is composed of 3 injection sites with 4 units each site. Botox around the eyes is the second most requested area and can take years off!
Forehead lines: Horizontal lines across the forehead are usually injected in conjunction with the glabella lines. Each patient is different. We normally inject around 8-20 units.
The right amount of BOTOX® is not the same for everyone and the exact number of units for full treatment is customized for each individual person. A number of factors, including your gender, the areas you would like to treat, the natural strength of your facial muscles, and other factors influence the amount of BOTOX® you will need.
If you are new to BOTOX®, expect us to provide conservative treatment during the first visit. The goal is to get as close as possible to the optimal amount of BOTOX® without over-treating an area. We would much rather have you return to the office for touch-ups than to receive too much and be unhappy with the outcome. The goal with BOTOX® treatment is to diminish wrinkles while still being able to make normal facial expressions.
We look forward to offering you a consultation to determine how you can achieve your ultimate beauty goals!
